And, if you follow our Fishing Report, you probably know that ice fishing season is just around the corner on Lake of the Woods. That means it's time to check the gear and consider your options to stay warm, comfortable and out of the wind.

For sure, we want that cold weather in order to experience ice fishing, but we also need a rather comfortable and warm shelter for the season.

However, the best option for an ice fishin shelter depends on your personal needs and the particular conditions we will be fishing in. That’s why, here at Totem Resorts we’re mentioning some of the ice fishing shelters you can find available for you during this winter.

Like that, you’ll find your ideal “ice shanty” or “ice shack”, that portable structure placed on a frozen lake to provide shelter during ice fishing.

Insulated tents are ten!

For starters, you can opt for a good insulated tent, which is the funding piece of equipment for ice fishing.

In fact, good portable ice fishing tents are easy to maneuver and allow you to stay warm. In addition, they come in different sizes to provide the right amount of room and comfort.

The greatest choice for optimum portability will be a foldable tent. However, a foldable tent on a sled is an excellent choice since it allows us to retain everything we need on the bottom of the sled and yet fold the tent on top.

Huts or shacks?

We will call an ice fishing hut or shack a permanently built structure, of any material mounted on skis or a trailer. Without any doubt, they’re suitable to keep us warm allowing us to fish through the ice.

Moreover, people will get very creative designing and building their ice fishing huts. And well, it only takes a drive down the Lake of the Woods ice road to contemplate that for sure is like that.

In fact, it’s a matter of time now for Totem Resorts to build the ice road down Long Bay and place our shack for our guests!

Castles for kings and queens

Fully equipped trailers are becoming very popular for ice fishing. To illustrate, just imagine a recreational vehicle with fishing holes on the floor, prepared to face the winter conditions.

For sure, ice fishing castles are the top shelf option for ice fishing.

With options going from 12 feet long for the perfect couple getaway weekend, to 28 feet with room for the entire family plus a couple of friends. And Totem Resorts has added three of these **ice fishing **castles to our winter options at Yellowbird Lodge.

Still, remember that the best option for a shelter is totally up to you. Just pack your things up and be ready for spending the ice fishing season in a warm and comfortable shelter.
